If I can do it, so can you…

If I can do it, so can you…

Do you want to wake up feeling enthusiasm for the day ahead?  Do you want to feel happier and experience more inner peace and joy in your life?  Do you want to feel like you can cope and overcome the difficulties and challenges that come to you?

For quite some time now, I have woken up feeling fairly happy, quite contented, and looking forward to the day ahead.  This hasn’t always been the case.  My natural disposition for many years was one of pessimism, low level anxiety and depression, dissatisfaction with life, a feeling of wanting and needing more, feelings of jealousy, injustice and despondency.

But this desire for wanting more, has led to much soul searching.  For many years, it was a negative kind of “what’s the point” soul-searching, but it slowly changed to being an excited, motivated, inspiring soul-searching.  It also led to a long time of letting go of my low-level negativity, complaining and pessimism about life and “my lot”.

I know that if I can shift my perception about my life then so can you.  And with that comes many benefits – more energy, more motivation, excitement and passion about the days and months ahead, a sense of anticipatory enthusiasm.

Now I’m not saying I don’t have the occasional day, or few days where I feel anxious or miserable anymore; but with the resources and support system I have put in place, this changes for me in a relatively short amount of time, in comparison to the months of this that I have endured previously.

I’m also not saying that I have everything in my life exactly as I want it for the rest of my life!  I still have a need for direction, intention-setting, creative expression and expansive movement in my life.  I have characteristics that I wish to develop and others to continue to let go of.  For example, I want to feel more open, compassionate and loving and I want to feel less judgemental and critical.

Feeling happier, and learning to love my current life is a daily practice which requires self-discipline.  What works for me won’t necessarily be what works for you.  I have to spend some quiet time tuning into myself, and my needs each day.  I spend some time practising gratitude daily – and I can definitely say that this has been the biggest game changer.  If you start small with this first thing in the morning, it has a snowball effect throughout the day.  I try and pay attention to my feelings throughout the day, so when I notice my mood drop, I do something from my “mood shifters list” (please follow this link to find out more) to clear that through as quickly as possible.  I have the intention to eat well each day, and to get plenty of sleep.  Journaling has been invaluable as have affirmation exercises.

So decide if you want change in your life, and if so, make a commitment to yourself to do something different, not only for today, but ideally for about 30 days.  Then see what changes occur.  Be open to the unexpected.  Anything is possible.  Embrace the adventure of your life!

You can find out more about my journey through this process in my book: “YES YOU CAN create a life you love”.  These are the tools and techniques I used to get to this place and continue to use most days. They truly work!  Don’t just take my word for it – try them for yourself.  You can buy a signed copy on my website: www.elainegibbons.co.uk or it is available in paperback or kindle on Amazon.  Enjoy!
